Pilchard Pie

A cheap and cheerful supper that is easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- Mash
- 3 – 4 Large Potatoes
- 2 tbs Butter
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 4 tbs Milk
- Salt/Pepper to taste
- Pie Filling
- 425g Can of Pilchards in Tomato or Chilli Sauce
- 100g Frozen or Drained Canned Mixed Vegetables
- 1/2 Cup Breadcrumbs
Instructions
- Pre heat the oven to 200° C
Mash
- Cook the potatoes in salted boiling water till soft
- Drain well
- Mash together with the butter and milk
- Fold in the baking powder
- Season with a pinch of salt
Pie Filling
- Tip the pilchards into a bowl with the sauce
- Split them apart length wise, then break into large chunks in the sauce
- Gently mix in the mixed veg
- Season with salt and pepper
- Place Pilchard and vegetable mix in a greased casserole dish
- Top with the mashed potatoes
- Scatter the breadcrumbs on top
Bake
- Bake uncovered for 20 to 30 min until crunchy and golden
- For the last 5 min place under the grill to crisp the top of the mash
