Was always a big hit in our house.
Ingredients
  • 30 ml Olive Oil
  • 1 Large Onion
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Carrots
  • 2 Sticks Celery
  • 125 g Streaky Bacon
  • 500 g Beef Mince
  • 400g Can Chopped Tomatoes
  • 30 ml Tomato Paste
  • 125 ml Red Wine
  • 250 ml Beef Stock
  • 10 ml Sugar
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Peel and chop the onion
  2. Peel and dice the carrots
  3. Dice the celery
  4. Crush the garlic
  5. Heat the oil and gently fry the onion, carrot, celery and garlic till soft
  6. Chop the bacon and add to the pan
  7. Cook for 5 min
  8. Turn the heat up slightly and add the mince
  9. Brown the mince, breaking it up with a wooden spoon
  10. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, stock and sugar and mix well
  11. Simmer slowly for 50-60 min until the sauce has thickened
  12. Add salt and pepper to taste
  13. Serve with spaghetti
